Fairy Tale
by Stephen King
This was the first book I read written by Stephen King. Overall, I was happy with the book. However, I must say that I definitely did not read this book in the proper time: past two months ( yes, it took me two months to read this book) was not a good time in my life ( stress of exams, revolution in Iran and etc) to enjoy the book nor was it a time that I’ve already read his other works in order to enjoy the eater eggs in this book.
Things I liked ? The first half of the book : definitely the best slice of life I’ve ever read, completely believable that the book is written by a 17 year-old-boy. The other half containing fairy tale and magic and stuff was “ok to good”. What else? little Easter eggs about H.P.Lovecraft, goosebumps, mentions of real world like trump, …
Here comes my problem : that slice of life is not why I bought the ticket . I expected that more of the book be about magic and even horror. It was like going to a Harry Potter movie and expecting to see expecto patrunum and instead seeing that 70% of the movie is about muggles.
Will I read more works of the writer ? Definitely. I intend to start “The dark tower” series in the future and thus I’m happy I tried a King’s standalone before committing to that series.
