What harm could one kiss do?
Kiss of Steel is a wonderfully creative & seductively riveting paranormal romance of chance and loyalty. It’s a tale of the importance of family, trust, and putting your faith in the hands of others, despite any prior intolerances. We follow the story of Honoria and Blade, a strong, yet stubborn heroine fallen from grace and the feared, but deeply wounded Devil of Whitechapel respectively, who both have suffered greatly at the hands of a common enemy. What begins as a reluctant mutual agreement to ensure survival quickly evolves into a steamy affair when the veils of lies and secrets are finally lifted.
The story is set in an alternate Victorian London, filled with street gangs, whimsical creatures and innovations, and dangers lurking in the shadows. The familiar setting is subtly infused with steampunk concepts and elements, vividly imagined and beautifully rendered. Complete with regional accents and various styles of fashion, the immersion factor is quite impressive throughout. Ruled by a party of aristocratic blue bloods, those who are infected with the craving virus, slowly degrading into vile, mindless vampires whose hunger can never be sated, the city remains on the cusp of turmoil as humans are basically viewed as cattle. However, a vampire is on the loose, and all must work together if they’re to survive the night.
The underlying adventures and mysteries are engaging, the makings of a definite page-turner; the conflict is visceral and bloody, keeping me on the edge of my seat from start to finish; the romantic aspects are ravishing and racy, slowly oozing, then avalanching through the chapters. Kiss of Steel is a stunning debut, and I’m excited to continue my journey through the streets of Whitechapel with the rest of the series. If you’re looking for a captivating, inventive example of what the paranormal romance genre has to offer, this is an instance you surely shouldn’t miss. Onto the next!
