Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Cañas

3.0

Once again I wish there was a way to give these ratings half stars as the book overall was a 3.5 for me. I think much of the value of this story lies in the historical and Mexican mythology aspects of the story. This is a good spooky story for anyone looking for a different take on vampires. The history of the battle lines for Mexico and America were interesting, and how in many ways the Americans are seen as vampires feeding off the people and the land they take. My only misgivings about this book was that the main characters were not the most compelling for me. Nena’s and Nestor’s conflict did not stand out as much as the overall plot to me. It felt a lot like every other romance I’ve read and had it not been for the history and vampires, I don’t know if I would’ve enjoyed the story as much. I do think I will pick up this story again though, and maybe I will like them better on my next read through.
