Apprentice by Rachel E. Carter
4.0

The story is similar to Tamora Pierce's Allana series but the main difference is that the heroine never had to hide the fact that she is a girl. This caused her a different set of issues than that of Allana.

The pace of the book was good but there were times I am thinking if the 4 year as apprentience should have been two books instead of one just to give more details. It is like just giving the highlight of each year and months had passed from one scene to another.

I liked that the heroine is smart enough to acknowledge her faults and not some dimwit who does not know ahe has been acting dumb. The "arg" parts (parts of story wherein I don't want to continue or look away cause the hero/heroine is doing something totally dumb) is swift and is not as painful to read. Though I still saw her changing her ming *again* on the boat and had to put the book down for a day befor I could move on.

I loved the twist in the end wherein everything that the prince did was still for them and that the other peincess had "bought" both their happiness. The scenario was something totally unexpected. this coming from me who usually see plot twists a few chapters away since i've read a lot.
