Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe by Cullen Bunn

3.0

Not the best introduction to Deadpool probably...

Bought this off a super sale on Amazon because I wanted to see if the Deadpool comics were as good as the movie...

Unfortunately this collection relies a lot on having a deep comics background. I've only read a few graphic novels (Preacher, Watchmen, Scott Pilgrim, & American Alien I think are all of them) so I have a hard time identifying every Marvel character by sight. I feel like I need an annotated version of this with captions, "Here you can see Howard the Duck roasted on a platter."

From the very first few pages, after 75% of the Fantastic Four has been killed, Invisible Girl does some weird thing where she somehow blows up Deadpool's head? I'm sure a diehard Marvel fan would know that this is her forming a force field inside his skull and then rapidly expanding it, but I had to read her Wikipedia page to figure that out.

I even had to Google one of the jokes on the final page ("Snikt")!

So my ability to enjoy this book as a whole was diminished but the Merc with a Mouth still seemed fun. I'd love to know if there's a Deadpool graphic novel out there that's a more easy to "get" introduction to the character...
