I know this is an "older" series but I don't know how it isn't talked about more. These books have absolutely wrecked me and then put me back together. The depth of emotion and pain that these people have had to go through for their pack is staggering. This book especially focuses on duty and responsibilities and how those two things can affect you in ways you can't control.

Mark Bennett gave his wolf away a long time ago to the Bennett pack's witch Gordo. Mark had been circling Gordo for a while untli Gordo finally caught onto what was happening. He realized he was interested and made a move, but Mark was three years older so they had to wait to make anything official. But still Mark gave him his wolf as a testament to his feelings for Gordo.

To give even more background, Gordo and Mark have been in each other's lives for forever. Gordo has been marked by his dad with his magic. He is destined to be the witch for the Bennett pack. Him and Mark's brother Thomas, who will be the next alpha, work together a lot. Everything changes when Gordo's mom starts losing it. She tries to kidnap Gordo. She whispers things to him that catch on his insecurities with the pack which get blown out of proportion when his father does the unthinkable. He is removed from the pack and placed into custody with the powers that be. At the same time Hunters come to town and slaughter the pack except for a few. Gordo, a human, is named the pack witch when he is only 14. Thomas, the new alpha, has to make a stand. He makes the decision to move his whole family NOT including Gordo back east to get things with the wolves under control. He cuts anything that is growing with Mark and Gordo down in a decision.

Mark tried to come visit. He tries to make Gordo realize how important he is, but Gordo is beyond that. He is acting out and hooking up with whoever will have him to protect his heart. Everyone he has cared about has abandoned him. It is on one of these visits that all ties are cut between Gordo and Mark and the pack itself.

Fast forward to Wolfsong and everything that happens there. Mark is back in town. Gordo refuses to acknowledge they are here until once again tragedy strikes and he realizes he can't hold Joe accountable for his father's mistakes. Gordo is broken but tries to come off strong. He wants something in his life but of course tells no one. Mark makes it clear he is not done with Gordo. He wants him in his life and he wants him forever. Gordo fights it until it is too late. The decision has been made for him one that is out of his and Mark's control. But Mark and even Gordo himself underestimate what he is willing to do for Mark. Because now that he has gotten past his and anger and hurt, he realizes he wants Mark forever too. Now they just have to hope they can make it before it's too late.

Yall these books!!! I am trying to spread them out to savor them a little bit but it took everything in me not to dive right into Robbie and Kelly's story. These men have such high emotions. They are so raw and broken. They have been through so much but at the end of the day they are pack. They understand they can rely on each other. I LOVED the different timelines, while they broke my heart they put everything in perspective. If you haven't read this series yet, I HIGHLY recommend it.
