i just know the victorian girlies were eating this up- they were gasping at the plot twists, twirling their hair and kicking their feet, and staying up far later than they should just to read another chapter.

this was a lot better than i expected it to be! the writing was beautiful and the character of jane was very well constructed! i think she's one my favorite classic characters for sure! she was really likable and the things she experienced/talked about was very relevant which i found surprising. i found the book to lag a bit towards the end though, but the ending was really good (i'm talking that last chapter the EPILOGUE). overall was impressed, though reading classics takes a lot out of me and now i want to rot my brain with some truly terrible YA
