Review: This book is so cute! It's such a nice mix of fluffy rom-com and dark romance elements. On the surface, this seems like a cute bodyguard x royalty romance that uses the grumpy x sunshine trope. However, readers will soon discover how dark this book can get with Rhys' possessiveness and protectiveness and the things they do in... private.

"If we do it, we do it together. You and me against the world, princess."

Rhys Larsen is such a good man. I love how he is so protective of Bridget and keeps insisting that it's his job, but we all know that it's not just because it's his job. He seems like a tough guy, but it's no secret that he's a huge softie on the inside, especially for Bridget. He'll do anything to make Bridget happy (as long as it doesn't compromise her safety). It's so nice to watch him grow more and more open towards Bridget until he's not afraid to be vulnerable in front of her.

Bridget von Ascheberg is awesome. She loves her people and wants to make their lives better. She loves animals and volunteers at animal shelters. Even though she's a princess, making her very privileged, she's not a superficial airhead (if you know, you know). She's smart. Underneath her sweetheart exterior, she has a lot of pain stemming from a lot of guilt, and I think the author expressed this complicated feeling very well. Her relationship with her grandfather, the King, is so wholesome.

There is no denying that Rhys and Bridget have chemistry. Not only are they sexually attracted to each other, but it's also clear that they have a strong romantic attraction. He does a lot of sweet things for her (and adorably denies or downplays their significance), which is so cute. The love they share for each other just touches my heart, especially with the whole forbidden love thing going on. And because this is ultimately a dark romance, it pleases me to see Rhys getting jealous and possessive over Bridget dating other guys (because she has to as part of her royal duty). So pleased.

The smut in this book is a lot darker than that in Twisted Love – Bridget has a humiliation kink going on. It's quite amusing to think about how a prim and proper princess like Bridget enjoys being degraded by the man she loves in bed. Of course, Rhys treats her like the princess she is outside of bed, which is honestly amazing. She gets the best of both worlds!

This book definitely has a totally different vibe from Twisted Love. The overall vibe of the story is more light-hearted, and considering this book is mostly centred around Bridget's future in Eldorra, we also don't get to see her best friends Ava, Jules and Stella that much (but don't worry because they did appear). What's different about this book is also the palace politics, which is interesting because, unlike many countries that still have a monarchy today, Eldorra's royal family holds a level of political power. I really enjoyed watching it unfold. It was so satisfying. It got me squealing.

"We always end up where we’re meant to be."

In conclusion, I highly recommend this book to those who would like a cute bodyguard dark romance. Rhys and Bridget are adorable, and their relationship problems and yearning were believable and touched my heart. I suggest reading this book only after Twisted Love because some significant scenes between Rhys and Bridget make some scenes and time jumps in this book make more sense. Once again, this is a dark romance book, and as long as you pick it up knowing that, this book should be enjoyable.
