The Chemist by Stephenie Meyer
4.0

An out of the box style romance with plenty of action and adventure. Meyer knows how to weave a tale of lovers that rings true to Romeo and Juliet, never meant to be together, but still hold a more modern energy that any reader can enjoy.

The downside is this feel that, as is set by her other works, Meyer's texts tend to be made into films and this book especially is written with that clear intention. Places where she could be concise and just give one or two sentences to describe an outfit or new environment is given detailed paragraphs, almost as if she wants to document her image for any film director in the future. Unfortunately, this often makes her work long winded and a lot for the reader to take in.

The piece itself it one of Meyer's longest works at a little over 500 pages. With that comes a long lull in the middle of the plot in which the romance really builds but the action all but comes to a stand still. Worth it to push through to the ending but not all readers are that determined.

Overall, a solid read and great text from Meyer and surely a step up into a more adult world in comparison to her more Young Adult novels. If one is willing to push through the mass details and lull for romance well worth it for the unique characters and storyline.
