This is the first of a new fantasy series with just a smidge of diverse romance. It is a story of two sisters tragically separated, and the way their personalities and circumstances shape them in to vastly different people with opposing goals.
The author takes us on a journey through a desolate post apocalyptic fantasy world filled with unique magic. The world building, amount of POVs, and time jumps were confusing at first, but in the end they were each an important part of experiencing the story as the characters do.
Watching the diverse characters and relationships grow and change kept me riveted. This book is full of heartbreak, obsession, ambition, betrayal, apathy and so much unearned guilt.
By the end of the book some of my questions were answered, but I was left with so many more. What a great start to a series. I can’t wait to see what happens next in all of our characters story’s, and to witness the growth of characters and their relationships in the next books.
