First of allāthis book? Pure chaos. Dark, satirical, and messy in the most bingeable way.
Julie is not a likable main character. In fact, sheās kind of the worst.
And yet?? I could not stop listening to her story. Her spiral is slow, calculated, and just so hard to look away from. A real train wreck. š š„
The audiobook was incredibleāthe narrator really brought Julie to life. Her voice shifted and evolved as Julie unraveled, and the way she portrayed the other characters made it SO obvious how vapid and ridiculous these people were. It added a whole extra layer of immersion.
There were moments I genuinely thought, āOkay⦠maybe sheās learning something,ā and then the end hit and I was just NOPE, I guess not? Not sharing spoilers, but⦠girl. š
And the twist with the mouse?? My jaw was on. the. floor. I had to pause and replay it just to make sure I heard it right. That made my stomach turn⦠in a good way?
The influencer angle was definitely over-the-top in placeā¦Like, I donāt actually think anyone goes that far to maintain an image, but it worked. The satire hit hard. This was curated chaos wrapped in designer trauma and I devoured it. I just love stories about influencers. I donāt know why but itās addictive. Tell me Iām not alone here!
I finished this book feeling so many things. Not wrecked exactly, not hollow either⦠just emotionally scrambled in the best way.
Would I reread it? Probably not (Iām not a rereader), but Iāll be thinking about it for a long time.
Read this if you love influencer drama, morally grey (maybe morally DARK) women making VERY bad choices, or if youāre obsessed with shows like Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and want to see that culty, high-gloss darkness on the page.
4 stars. āļø āļø āļø āļø
Please someone read this so I can scream about it in detail.
