This was an interesting read with so many moving parts but still easy to follow along. The main character Kambili was so relatable to me. A young girl who doesn’t know what she wants or who she is because she never knew she could choose who she is. All she knows is what she’s told she is. It’s a sad story but one where you really root for the characters. They transform and change in big and little ways and it’s beautiful to see. It’s a story about the complicated feelings of grief. Losing someone or something that wasn’t good for you and the mixed emotions that come with it. This book explores the cycle of abuse, Christianity in an African context, corruption, love, hope, family and identity. Overall a great read that will have you engrossed in the story. I really recommend it.
Graphic: Child abuse, Domestic abuse, Miscarriage
