The Turn of the Screw and The Aspern Papers
by Henry James
Read TTotS in college; read The Aspern Papers because I thought I'd read it before, but hadn't, and I've been overdue for a dose of James ever since The Wings of the Dove four years ago. The Aspern Papers is good for newbies because it's written in his more concise, earlier style; however, there's a gotcha! element to it that works for short stories and marginally less so for novellas.
