Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body by Roxane Gay
3.0
Another really powerful memoir, though, I can't fully articulate my thoughts about this. Physically, Roxane Gay is the opposite of me - she is 6'3'' and "morbidly obese" in medical terms. I'm 5'1'' and tiny, according to most people. The fact that I could relate to her struggles, granted in an extremely small capacity, is a testament to her writing. Maintaining a healthy relationship with your body is important and it's something that I don't think I've maintained very well. It's a sad truth that people will see your body before they see you and Gay addresses this very eloquently in this book.
There is so much power behind her words - that I'm still thinking about it. I'll sit on this review for a while and come back to finish it with more concrete thoughts.
