From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home by Tembi Locke

emotional inspiring reflective medium-paced

4.0

A story of enduring love, unimaginable grief, and a way through it all. Tembi really capture what it means to love somebody through sickness and health; through the ups and downs. It’s a book on forgiveness because the way Saro’s parents were toward her, being Black and also foreign to them, was something I was but wasn’t prepared for. The way Tembi’s family embraced him from jump was so amazing! I just knew Black people don’t play that! But the reconciliation was beautiful once Zoela came into the picture! The strength of Nonna!

I have yet to watch the series because I wanted to witness Tembi’s world for myself, from her mouth then watch the series. I think what stick out to me the most was the care she gave, but what Saro gave her to first. He was standing in the pouring rain while she slept! If I don’t have a love like that, just keep it! A beautiful tribute to a love that knew intimately races, culture, loss, grief, strife, and food! I have to try the recipes.
