October: The Story of the Russian Revolution
by China MiƩville
China Mieville is one of the most talented users of language I've ever come across. I read Perdido Street Station many years ago and always wanted to read more of his work, but now I remember why I didn't. It's hard work. He uses so many esoteric words, and when you go look them up, you find out they were perfectly chosen. But it's still hard to get through. Combine that with the Russian Revolution as subject matter and you have a book that I'm happy I got through. I learned many things about the revolution and the context in which it occurred, so in that sense I'm happy I read it. But it wasn't easy to finish.
