my god, this book. to have such an intimate look at one transcestor's life (much less someone so groundbreaking as Lou) is a true gift.
he paved the way for us gay trans men so much, and to see his intimate thoughts as he navigated a trans life when there was no community...it's astounding. so much of our experiences are similar, yet so much has thankfully changed. still, this was an absolutely visceral read for me. it took me a while to get through, but i'm absolutely glad i took my time so as to fully savor and reflect on the experience.
this is an absolute must read for gay trans men, no question. (this book is so personal for me that i'm frankly not interested in even remotely thinking about what it could be like for folks of other identities to engage with. read it if you're interested.) this will now go on as a work that is foundational to understanding me as a person.
