Blood Over Bright Haven
by M.L. Wang
phew. first of all - what the fuck? I need to sit with this one for awhile, will probably come back and change my rating. Miss Wang... you sure are NOT subtle with your message. I don't think it could've been any more clear even if I was bludgeoned with it.
Sciona is an infuriatingly complex character, I couldn't decide if I hated her or loved her. I hurt for Thomil for all 400 something pages of this book.
Initial feelings aside, this was a powerful read. The way Wang was able to create so much tension throughout a book that was mostly dialogue speaks to her talent as a writer and as a storyteller. I wanted SO badly to give this 5 stars, but for me, something was missing. I can't put my finger on it but I just couldn't give it the full 5. we'll see if that changes in a few days.
As emotionally painful as this read was, at least we all found one common enemy: men
