When DC announced the titles for Rebirth I was most excited about this title because it had two of my favorite characters: Cassandra Cain & Stephanie Brown. And an added bonus was that this title would also feature Batwoman, so I was extremely happy when DC approved me for a review copy. It wasn't my favorite of the rebirth titles i've read before (which is Aquaman) but sadly, it wasn't as good as I hoped it to be.
It wasn't spectacular but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The storyline was interesting and entertaining. I thought the pacing was perfect and the artwork was excellent. The characters felt real, though I do have to say that Cassandra and Clayface kind of faded into the background a bit as Steph, Tim, Kate, and Bruce took most of the attention. But, I have to say that Cassandra Cain is my favorite character so I'm biased. We get a lot of Batwoman’s backstory which I honestly loved and I can't wait to see where her story arc goes in the coming volumes. I also enjoyed seeing a vulnerable Batman in this.
I really enjoyed the team aspect, especially since a featured a diverse set of characters. I tend to enjoy team ups much more because I enjoy the interaction and how they work together when on missions. This team which consists of Clayface, Red Robin, Orphan, Spoiler, Batwoman, and Batman worked well with each other and came together pretty seamlessly which was great. If I'm honest I wish there was more interaction between the members. There was a lot of interaction between Stephanie and Tim, which I expected but I really wanted more interaction with everybody; hopeful there is more in the next volume.
Overall, I enjoyed this title and can't wait to see where things go. That ending has me a little worried about the direction of the storyline, so I will definitely be continuing on with this one.
