The Last Unicorn: The Lost Journey by Peter S. Beagle

It would be unfair of me to rate a first draft, so I'm not going to. I will say that this is an absolutely fascinating read for anyone interested in the writing process, since it effectively shows the evolution of a much beloved story. Also, if you're just a casual fan of The Last Unicorn, it is at least entertaining to read about some of the characters who didn't make it into the final version. Fair warning: it ends rather abruptly. Love Peter's Afterword where he discusses renting a cabin with his buddy during a summer in the 60s. I need more of that. More of that please? Feel free to always embellish autobiographical reality with unicorns though. I won't mind.
