Horrible writing style and grammar, everything else is just “meh”

First of all, this book is in serious need of editing. There are a multitude of issues with verb tense consistency, sentence fragments, and punctuation. With regards to writing style, the author commonly starts back to back sentences with “I [verb]” and the repetitive sentences and phrasing is tedious and boring to read. The book is also heavy on info dumps and features overly long paragraphs. If you told me this book had an editor then I wouldn’t believe you; I’ve seen fan fiction with better grammar and writing style than this.

Story-wise, I don’t mind the plot and found it interesting enough even if it’s not very unique. Character-wise, everyone just seems “fine”. The relationship between Mia and her mates is pretty insta-love and although it is possible to do that trope well, it really didn’t work for me here. Mia has been abused for 15 years and while the author does have a few instances of Mia being wary around her new mates, it felt really jarring to suddenly have her getting it on with her men. As a side note, the MC is 17 in the book and her mates are 20-21 so that made it weirder for me. They’re only fooling around in this first book but, still.

Overall, the idea is there but the execution was terrible. Will not be reading the second/final book.
