I'm not sure why the first half dragged so much for me, but I flew through the second half. By the end of the book it feels like everything is finally in place for an epic end of the Realm of the Elderlings series. I loved returning to some old and beloved characters. I really appreciated that they all had their own lives and competencies that were independent of our main character. Motley was a great addition to the team. Maybe the first half was hard because
of the lack of urgency of Fitz despite the reader knowing what happened at Withywoods and the continued suffering of the Fool
. Many things were hinted at that make me excited to continue and the many call backs to places, people and plot points feel like a reward for reading all of it instead of just the Fitz and Fool books.
