I read this book because 'its a classic', though I'm not sure how. I'm not kidding. Holden seems to have a terrible superiority complex that made it difficult to want to keep reading. It really did. I know part of it is supposed to be a depiction of mental illness, but instead I felt it just made him incredibly unlikeable as a character. He spends the entire book complaining about hating phony people, when hes the worst of them all.
Moderate: Alcoholism, Body shaming, Bullying, Cancer, Child death, Cursing, Mental illness, Misogyny, Rape, Sexism, Sexual assault, Suicidal thoughts, Grief, Toxic friendship, Alcohol, Sexual harassment
