Jay's Gay Agenda
by Jason June
jay’s gay agenda is kind of an annoying book, entirely because of the main character. Jay has kind of an obsession with checking things off his gay agenda and i don’t like it. anytime he’s spending time with anyone, he’s like “oh yay maybe i’ll finally kiss a boy or sleep with one and lose my virginity cause i’m such a virgin loser who’s never done anything romantic even though i’m 17”. it’s fucking exhausting. he needs to worry more about the fact that albert is a sweet, loving boy and less about the fact that he could maybe make out with albert at homecoming if he plays his cards right. also, he says frack instead of fuck. need i say more? honestly i fucking despise jay. he’s kind of selfish?? his best friend lu was going through some shit, and assumed she wasn’t talking to him because she was jealous he was living his dream gay life since she just broke up with chip??? hello, he’s such a bad friend?? he lies so fucking much to EVERYONE (and he also basically cheats). there was a giant mess of drama and apologies towards the end of the book, and while it was entertaining, it was also really dumb. i didn’t really care about the characters that much. Jay’s hyperfixation on experiencing simple things like kissing someone, or losing his virginity, was irritating to read about. the things on his gay agenda aren’t really particular to be being a gay boy. i don’t think he realizes that not everyone has romantic conquests in high school, no matter their sexuality. anyways, this book was just not doing it for me. 2.5 out of 5 stars.
