Skyward by Brandon Sanderson

5.0

I thought I was over YA books. I've been reading so many lately, and they've mostly all been a miss and kind of annoying with the same ol' powerful female protagonists, with the hot BF, who are destined to save the world. We'll this changed my mind, and I'm hopeful that YA isn't completely off my table.

Skyward is like Battlestar Galactica and Ender's Game with Murderbot's AI friend who's along for the ride. Here we have a bunch of kids in pilot school who are training for the war against an alien species who keep attacking their world. You get politics, classism, flawed characters with growth. No romance (thankfully, I don't think I could take another YA book where the romance takes over the plot).

The story is fast-paced the entire way through. I cried and started laughing hysterically through the tears (all the fracking feels in a second). I sat on the edge of my seat in suspense. Surprised by twists I never saw coming. This was 505 pages of YA perfection that I didn't want to end.

If you're looking for an entertaining, serious, and sometimes hilarious YA sci-fi, pick this up now!!
