This book had a lot of potential to be something I would have really enjoyed. I love grumpy damaged heroes juxtaposed against sweet heroines. But the characters just fell flat. The tension and romance felt rushed and undeveloped, even for a fast burn. The dialogue was redundant, characters were often saying the same things back to back. This is the second book in a series and I didn’t read the first. However I should have been able to put together the world easily if there was any decent world building. A 3 star rating means at least I had fun while reading it. What comes to mind is Abby Lee Miller saying “you were good, I’m waiting for you to be great”. I kept waiting for the book to hook me and keep me interested but it just never happened.
