Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing
by Matthew Perry
dark
emotional
funny
reflective
sad
slow-paced
Ok vibes for this book: troubled waters, but hope on the horizon.
He always talks about the view. He loves a good view. And this both makes me smile and feel like he and I would get along (cuz so do I) but also makes me sad because the last photo I saw of him was after his death as we saw him in his pool looking out at the view.
The book jumps around a lot, but I think that was intentional… can’t say that for sure because I did audiobook, but the interludes were continual but disjointed from each chapter, so… connected but jumpy.
And the ending made me sad because it’s hopeful and we know what happened after it was published. But overall, I found it hopeful and I think it helped to point out to those that don’t understand addictions that there’s different brain chemistry. They can’t do anything about it. But hopefully one day we will learn something that can help better than what we have now.
RIP Matthew. You deserve to have some peace. 🕊️
