This book was fun, though our main character, Monty, takes some getting used to seeing as he is pretty unlikable for the first 100 pages or so until he is forced to undergo a generous amount of character development. The three main characters, Monty, Percy and Felicity, all have different things that they are avoiding and they all view the tour as a last chance at happiness. It is a fun story featuring alchemy, pirates and other shenanigans but it also gets into darker themes including child abuse and the strangely riveting spectacle of watching rich, privileged people self-destruct dramatically. I think the author balances the overall light-hearted tone well with the darker aspects and the romance was entertaining.
