Who would have thought that the second book in a Duet would score higher than the first? Not me, but here we are, especially as this book not only follows our original protagonists, but in this one, we get more POVs, and the plot surrounds not only them but another couple entirely. Yet it is all woven so well together that at no point did I feel uninterested or bothered that Elspeth & Ravyn took a bit more of a back seat for portions of this final book.
The intricate and interesting world building, found family and magic system from book one continued into this book, and the pacing of the story kept up its momentum throughout. The Nightmare was again one of the most interesting and funny characters, in my opinion. Although all characters grew, they had depth and dimensions to them and their stories. I thoroughly enjoyed this Duet. It gave me the vibes I was looking for, and it is definitely a story you need to be taken along for, so going into details in this review won't be happening. This is the first fantasy in quite some time that has grabbed and kept my attention and that I have enjoyed as much as this, and for this being the authors debut work, I'm beyond impressed.
