The House at Pooh Corner: Classic Gift Edition by A.A. Milne
4.0
I probably could have finished this much sooner but for some reason reading each chapter slowly feels so much more meditative and calming. And also, the characters were all so charming (perhaps the most charming) and so I didn’t want to end the book. The world feels so alive while at the same time remaining quaint and cozy, with every character managing to flesh out the other and foil each other. They’ll have friends and maybe friends they don’t like so much, but they’re still a neatly knit band of characters whose interactions are, sorry to use the word again, just charming. But the world also feels lived in and NOT necessarily confined to the lives of the main characters, with a few mentions of Rabbit’s friends-and-relations. Something that I really loved was how the book doesn’t really talk down to the reader or try to stay too simple like some children’s books do which makes it just as enjoyable for adult audiences. I do think I preferred the stories from the first half of the book more than I did in the second but they still managed to be all around sweet, wholesome, and simple in the way a child is simple (which is a compliment). Now I’m on to book one as I realized that this is actually the second book i picked up but I don’t know how much I’ll enjoy it because it has no Tigger in it.
Also! Its so unfortunate they made Tigger live by himself in the movies when he lives with dear Kanga and Roo in the books.
