Weirdly I think I like the show better than the book.
Graphic: Infertility, Misogyny, Sexual content, and Rape
Moderate: Gore and Mental illness
If you’re here thanks to the Netflix show, you could probably skip this book. It’s much more narrow in scope and Daphne is less likable in a few ways (one hidden under the spoiler) and the rest of the family is obviously not fleshed out yet since this is the first book. I like the way the show combines storylines but I am going to the books another two or three tries before shelveing them in my recycle bin.
unlike in the show, Daphne has already figured out and confirmed how Simon plans to never get her pregnant. She decides when he comes home black out drunk to...rape him. Her inner thoughts reveal that she is doing it on purpose while he’s incapacitated just to get what she wants.
