This read was just ok. I liked the art, which is what grabbed me in the first place. My appreciation of the art remained constant for the whole novel, but my interest in the story dwindled. I felt there wasn't enough setup for the magical elements, and it seemed to wrap up the ending too perfectly through the use of those elements.
I was not expecting the murder mystery part, there definitely wasn't enough setup for that. I didn't believe the boyfriend would do it, because we don't even get to know him as a character first!
. Perhaps my biggest issue was that I didn't connect with the characters, so the story had no emotional meaning for me. There were a lot of characters, and two very different plot lines that I felt were too much for the length of the story. They tied together in the end, but I didn't feel they were meant to.
