I liked this quite a lot. Though, I admit to rereading the first few chapters and then the last few chapters again to make sure that I actually understood what was going on. What threw me wasn’t the twist itself but the thing the forest/Dove said about Thomas not really being there. The Dove twist was the one I’d foreseen and adding ambiguity to that was… a risk?? Comprehension-wise. But I think it works, and definitely feels like this is a story that rewards rereading.
Really, really enjoyed the ace rep in this. Identification hit me harder than I’d expected. Very happy to see queer books like this that I would have ADORED as a teen, but quite enjoyed as an adult regardless.
