Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson

emotional reflective relaxing slow-paced

3.0

I had a tough time getting into this book. A lot of times, with poetry, I either need separation on the subject, or separation of my consumption. The lack of narrative throughline is usually something I struggle with, and though Brown Girl Dreaming was largely a linear story, I just couldn’t divorce the reading of poetry (short bursts) from my experience of reading this book.

I do love the way Jacqueline Woodson writes her poetry - like a rocking horse. Clear cadence, relaxing and meditative.
