The Boyfriend Makeover by River Jaymes

3.0

From the very beginning of the series I was looking forward to Noah's story but I'm sad to say that, in comparison to the other two books, this one was my least favorite. It wasn't a bad story but not as good as the rest of the series. There was some good banter, some sweet and tender moments, and quite a few times I had to chuckle because of Noah's antics but also things that didn't work so well for me.

It took me quite some time to get into it - it was very slow at first and I got distracted during the first 25% of the book to the point of putting it aside and listening to other books. It got better after that and in the end, I was glad I kept listening.

Still, I would have liked more relationship development between Noah and Ky. Their attraction is palpable and their sexual chemistry is off the charts but I couldn't fully buy into them falling in love with each other.

Ky is an awesome guy and I really liked him as a character. His reasons for staying in the closet for so long were believable and made me love and respect him even more.
Noah is, even after so many years of Rick being dead, pretty screwed up. He never really dealt with his grief and his feelings of guilt - at least not in a healthy way. His coping consists of lots of meaningless sex, alcohol, and partying. It takes Ky to make him realize that his way of dealing isn't working and that it's time to face his past. Sadly, I had the feeling that this part was rushed through and because Noah getting better was integral to the guys starting a romantic relationship, I didn't think the guys were as solid by the end of the boos as the author wanted to make it sound. The ending wasn't as satisfying as it could have been and even the epilogue didn't make much of a difference there.

Overall the whole series is enjoyable - the first book was my favorite, followed closely by book two and a slightly disappointing book three.
