Drive
by Kate Stewart
I read Drive for the first time in early 2018, at a time when my life was changing. I remember connecting to the importance of music and how songs are associated with specific moments in time. Not only is the story accompanied by a killer playlist, but many of those songs had special meanings to me. It was impossible not to be transported back every time a song was mentioned. And I couldn't agree more with Kate Stewart when she wrote, "Music is the heart’s greatest librarian."
I rarely reread books, but when Reverse (the second book in this duet) was announced, I knew I needed to dive back into Drive. It's crazy because it almost felt as if I was reading it for the first time. I focused on this epic love story and the choices Stella made despite acknowledging the pain they would bring. I saw myself in Stella. She reminded me of when I was starting as a journalist and the times I settled and compromised on my dreams. Stella is determined and insistent, never taking no for an answer. She makes things happen, and while she might be a dreamer, she is also very aware of reality.
Life isn't linear and, occasionally, the past comes knocking back. Stella, Nate, and Reid are some of the best and most intense characters I've ever read. Drive is a story that feels real and needs to be experienced with music. I'm probably not making sense. Just trust me when I say, this is a book worth reading.
