A Dash of Romance by Paullett Golden

4.0

An unwelcome proposal leads Vicar's daughter Abigail Walsley to tell a little white lie- that she is already engaged to a man that she met last summer. Using the hero of her current writings, Abigail describes her tall, dark second son of an earl with gusto, not for one moment imagining that her perfect man exists.
But when Percival arrives, having been told by the entire ton that he is engaged to this Vicar's daughter, Abigail must come clean only Percy has reasons of his own for continuing the charade.

What a lot of fun. Percy was the right amount of flippant and flawed to be realistic whilst still being the hero that Abigail needed.
Abigail was simultaneously bold and respectful, which would be the best combination for a heroine, in my opinion.
I loved the ladies literary society and the way that the individual members each had their own standards and interests but came together out of mutual admiration.
I fell in love with Sidbury and the author did a fantastic job of making you involved with what was going on.
My only criticism is that there were far too many extended family members and I got confused about who was who when they all descended.
I would love to read more about the other ladies of the literary society to see what happens to them.
I also enjoyed the flash fiction at the end of the book. Those little snippets were very well done and several of them I've read multiple times, lingering on what could have been much longer stories.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
