This was a challenging, captivating, ultimately hopeful read that will stick with me. It was especially poignant - and somewhat unsettling - for me that part of it happened in the town I live. While Stephanie’s story (and her decisions and circumstances) are uniquely hers, they happen within a system that many people need to interact with and are impacted by, and I reflected on the ways I interact and/or contribute to that system. I was inspired by Stephanie’s ability to hold onto her power and by her mix of pragmatism, dreams, honesty, and love her herself and Mia.
