Laughter in the Dark
by Vladimir Nabokov
“death often is the point of life's joke.”
this is darkly funny and i actually enjoyed this a lot more than i thought. out of all the books a friend of mine has recommended for me, this is the only one i've actually read so far. if the other books are as good as this one maybe i'll start actually reading them (lol)
in any case, nabokov's writing style is just so satisfying for me to read (especially his use of parenthesis! how skillful) and as soon as easter break is over, i'm definitely going to be checking out more of his books from the library. the story was fun to read as well; it delved well into the characters and yet never seemed to drag on too much—a perfect balance.
basically : if every classic was written like this one, i'd definitely read more of them.
