Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros

Did not finish book.

1.0

If only I could give 0 stars

I read 220 pages and then had to dnf, I didn’t want to but this book little won the fight. If it wasn’t for the dragons I would of stopped reading a few pages in

The writing was so bad and so different to the first book! I liked Forth Wing, Iron Flame was meh, and this one has decided the series fate for me. I had to keep rereading sentences and whole scenes cause nothing made sense (it’s giving ai with a little bit of tweaking)

This series should have been a trilogy there was too much filler and pointless adventures, character introductions and lackluster worldbuilding. The fact that the series was meant to be a trilogy but everyone decided to turn it into a cash grab scheme and turn it into 5 books is frustrating.

The plot had so many holes it was looking like a sieve rather than a book. The first two had plot points that were never closed in this book or even mention again, new holes was also created and never explained.

Yarros needs a better editor because why did I wait over a year to read this book just for it to be worse than Iron Flame.

And the characters, where did Violet the smart, badass and adaptable fmc from book one go? All she is focused on is getting f’ed by Xaden and claiming him, they are in the middle of a war, where is the actual romance? Xaden was just the same old character from book one with little development, he reminds me so much of other bookish shadow mmc if they weren’t burnt in the process of creating them.

If only the politics and fantasy elements were expanded on, the book series would be so much better.

I’m gonna pretend that FW was a standalone and everyone is happy and the dragons are vibing.
