The Atlas Paradox by Olivie Blake
3.0
EDIT: DNFing the last book of this trilogy has me going back and lowering these scores - it is not dishonest to rank them lower when the total of their experience is worse than its parts. Anyway
Yes yes the middle of a trilogy is impossible to reckon with but I do wanna say this one gets points off for dragging a little bit. I feel like the theme of Blake biting off more than she could chew continues here unfortunately she UNDERSTANDS which relationship dynamics are intense and worth following so so well and yet sometimes she gives her characters Too Many motives - which is really good in how complicated that makes them but bad when it's the book equivalent of having a stack of loose leaf notes that you've scattered and have to put back together. I really like her writing in this one though (despite the, again, too many adjectives issue of much of dark academia writing) I gotta say I loved so many choices with world building and narrative but please one at a time the plot tends to lose itself a bit at points. I'm really happy she saw interesting threads in new pairings in this book rather than playing up already established dynamics in Six it was very refreshing to see her try new things with the whole premise. I'm excited for the 3rd one but I might give it a second!
