dark emotional informative medium-paced

I took some issues with Fisk’s writing—his need to compare tragedies, his lack of emotion, and especially his one-dimensional depictions of women. I also know he regurgitated some Assadist propaganda in more recent years. But this book is a tremendous account of bearing careful, concerned witness to atrocity, and Fisk refuses to dehumanize his subjects. Key to understanding so much of intertwined Lebanese, Palestinian, Syrian, Israeli, and even Iranian history. Read it!
