This was a volume of both books in this series and a bonus short story, and they all get 5 stars. This is the third VE Schwab series I’ve read, and so far it takes second best after the Shades of Magic series. I liked it better by far than Monsters of Verity. I loved the world in this, the concepts and the characters, and I even didn’t mind the romance because I liked the chemistry and the connection between Wes and Mac. I loved the writing and Mackenzie’s struggles through both books. The villains were great too, and the plot was fast paced and action packed in both books. I definitely want to read the Vicious/Villains duology to see how they rank with the rest of Schwab’s writing, but this series is a close second to ADSOM.
