Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
4.0

It only took me 6 years to read this, but I'm glad that I finally did. While there were some aspects of this novel (odd pacing in relationship development and action scenes) that I struggled with, overall I found this to be a compelling fantasy read that maintained my interest. It was a bit more violent (not graphic, but references to torture and rape, among other things) than I was expecting, but Yelena is a wonderful character: strong, stubborn, determined, but ultimately flawed.
Overall, I definitely enjoyed reading this, and absolutely looking forward to reading some of the sequels!
