Peachy by Camri Kohler

adventurous dark emotional funny mysterious medium-paced

4.0

*Big thanks to Camri and Lake Country Press for this ARC in exchange for an honest review*

Peachy is such a fun and unique story. I don't think I can compare it to anything else. It's almost like it's in its own genre. It's a horror fantasy that's dark, gritty and scary but it also has this humorous feeling to it.

*This review will be broken into pros and cons. Sorry in advance for this long-ish review. I always have so much to say and I enjoy reading long detailed reviews so maybe you do too.*

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐬:
• 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲- Frankie is dealing with the loss of grandmother and while they weren't close, she's feeling some type of way. I love how her friends are there for her and her friendship with Ben is just unmatched. Their hilarious banter, the fact that he looks after her...I'm lowkey obsessed with Ben 😍
• 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠- The writing in this book is amazing and so immersive. There were times that I wanted to look away from the graphic imagery but I just could not.
• 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫- Frankie isn't the usual main character. She's messy, doesn't shower often and just wants to get drunk haha. I liked how different this was from the typical protagonist...even though most of the time I couldn't get the thought that she was funky out of my head 😂
• 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫- The hauntings were top tier and my favorite element of the story.
• 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐬- I really like how the supernatural beings (or is it paranormal beings? I legit don't know the difference 🙈) in this world were just different classes of witch (vampires, shifters, dragons, seers, etc.). Vampires are more like life suckers but they're still considered witches.

As much as I loved this book, I did have a few minor gripes with it.⬇️

𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬:
• 𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡/𝐬𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬🥺- Yes, I know it's a part of the magic but the author's vivid descriptions were not making it easy on me.
• 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐚- I wasn't too keen on this because I didn't take a liking to the new character that was introduced, though I'm pretty sure I was supposed to. Also, this character constantly referring to Frankie as "my peach" gave me this...visceral revulsion 🤮 ugh please stop!
• 𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞- I understand that this is the first book in a series and we need time to get used to the magic and the characters, but the main conflict was introduced too late in the story in my opinion so the beginning dragged a bit.

Don't be deterred by these three cons. I genuinely enjoyed this book, most of the characters, the unique storyline and will be first in line to read Pared (the sequel). But on a serious note....where can I get a Ben because come on?😍
