Glow of the Everflame by Penn Cole
4.0

I’m not a series reader.  It is RARE for me to find a series I stick with.  But I am now on book three of this tetralogy.  If that’s not a glowing (book 3 pun intended), statement on how much I have enjoyed the start of this romantasy, I don’t know what is!

In all honestly, I didn’t sit down to write my review after book one because that ending MADE me rush straight into the next book.  And then, that happened again at the end of book two. So, here I sit in the middle of book three trying to separate my thoughts on each book when they are all muddled in my head.

Instead, I’m going to combine my thoughts for Spark and Glow.

I was drawn to Diem from the beginning.  She’s an ambitious young girl with lofty ideals full of emotion and desire for connection. But it was her brazen and fiery spirit that endeared me most.  (I can’t resist a bold female heroine!)

Her anger at injustice thrummed throughout the book and became the very rhythm of the storyline.  She was an unlikely hero that I found easy to cheer on, even in her many (many!) naïve moments.

But the fire in this book is found in Luther!  Ah, LUTHER!!!!!  I could not get enough of him.  Dark and brooding.  Loyal and emotionally complex.  Protective but not controlling.  The way he captivated and had me turning the pages!

The titles of each book in this series should’ve clued me in that this would be a slow burn.  But for some reason, I didn’t acknowledge that until I saw how LONG book 3 was.  While I think the books I’ve read so far could’ve benefitted from a better edit and less repetition, I still find myself engaged and longing to see how it’ll all work out.

Between the battle for justice, those gray areas between good and evil, and the white-hot flame of chemistry and romance, this series has burning (4th book pun intended) with excitement.

Many thanks to my friends at @atriabooks for the free #gifted copies of these books.  #partner
