It's been a while since I've gotten a book from botm that I've truly loved, but this one has broken that streak! This was my first Abby Jiminez book and I seriously don't know what has taken me so long to try her books.
I loved both of our main characters. While they came from different worlds many of the pressures they faced were the same with the expectations other people had of them. Upholding a family name is daunting and can really impact a relationship dynamic and I thought that was show really well through Alexis and Daniel.
The author took great care to portray both intimate partner abuse and parent/child abuse in this novel. It's a heavy topic but is handled so well and I know this story will help many people to feel seen and know there is light on the other side of a very dark tunnel.
A small town setting will get me every single time. I just love all of the supporting characters you get and the sense of community always bonding together. These scenes and some truly laugh out loud moments helped balance the heavier themes extremely well.
Basically just read this book. It was so good and now I need to dive in to Abby's backlist titles asap.
