Now that I’ve had time to sit on my thoughts for this book, here comes the review:
The story itself was a thrill ride for sure, and the characters were multilayered. I liked Quinn as a final girl and I loved her dad (haven’t seen the movie adaptation yet but I could picture Bill Pullman as Dr. Maybrook).
But the clown reveal…or REVEALS plural… Maybe I’ve been too spoiled by clown horrors where the killer is a single demonic entity posing as a clown… but honestly I would have rather Frendo been a single demonic entity (or just one demented indivual or two) posing as a clown. I get where the author was going, but it felt a step too far that it just became a role reversal of Children of the Corn. It wasn’t terrible, but it was not what I expected, and I still can’t tell whether or not I enjoyed it
Either way, it was a quick read and I can see why people love this story (and its sequels).

To quote Lorde, WHAT WAS THAT?!?!?
