Queen James: The Life and Loves of Britain's First King
by Gareth Russell
informative
slow-paced
A detailed and intriguing look into James VI and I’s life, told through the prism of his relationships but expanded out into his entire life.
I did feel that at time the footnotes or explanations were unneeded but appreciate that for some readers they were likely necessary and it never felt like the author strayed too far from the point in the occasional tangent to a related section of history.
I also appreciated that at times the author presented the many theories on topic and allowed the reader to draw their own conclusions instead of definitively deciding on one explanation when there was not enough evidence to back it up.
