Jane: A Murder by Maggie Nelson
5.0

This is a poetry/prose combo that really reads like a lyrical thriller. It's paced quickly and takes the form of a narrative that intertwines the past with the more recent past and the present. The narration moves between the perspective of the author and the perspective of the murdered Jane. It's just beautiful. I loved it and will probably re-read it over and over and over again (like the rest of Maggie Nelson's writing). I just want to live in Nelson's delicious phrases for-e-ver.

I definitely recommend reading the Red Parts in tandem with this or prior or even after - just read them both! I think they inform each other and complement each other, they also show how haunted Maggie Nelson is by this family tragedy.
